Prep Hoops Roundup: Northridge boys outlast Fremont in free-throw fest

PLAIN CITY – Northridge led 59-54 after three quarters and held off Fremont to capture a Region 1 road win 74-72 on Tuesday.

Jake Hotchkiss scored 20 points to lead Northridge, including 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. Alec Duffin added 16 points with two 3-pointers.

Matt Goodrich netted 14 with four treys and Jovonte Wyllie scored 11.

Cade Hadley led all scorers with 21 for Fremont, shooting 9 of 10 from the line and knocking down four 3-pointers.

Dallin Hall added 18 points, Baylor Harrop netted 13 Kyler Bush added 10 for Fremont.

The teams combined for 41 personal fouls and 53 free throws. Northridge shot 18 of 22 from the charity stripe and Fremont went 27 of 31.

BOX ELDER 56, TAYLORSVILLE 44

TAYLORSVILLE – Max Watson scored 19 points and Box Elder took a road win at Taylorsville.

The Bees outscored Taylorsville 27-13 in the first half and coasted to the win.

Porter Clawson added 10 points for Box Elder. Tyson Madson had nine.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 68, JUDGE MEMORIAL 53

LAYTON – Braxton Meah scored 17 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, to help Layton Christian pull away from Judge Memorial.

Sano Gasana finished with 14 points, nine of them coming in the decisive fourth that saw the Eagles outscore Judge 25-12.

Malcolm Smauldon added 12 points for LCA and Micah Petty drained three 3-pointers.

VIEWMONT 63, HIGHLAND 56

BOUNTIFUL – Josh Mordue scored 17 points and Viewmont snapped a three-game losing skid with a home win over Highland.

The Vikings won the fourth quarter 25-18 after the teams entered the period tied.

Kason Chowen totaled nine points, five rebounds and four assists for Viewmont. Spencer Mackay added 10 points and seven rebounds.

OLYMPUS 84, BOUNTIFUL 70

HOLLADAY – Olympus used a 18-6 third quarter to break a 43-43 halftime tie in a win over Bountiful.

Camron Chism led Bountiful with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Brig Willard scored 14 while Cooper Ohlson and Camden Jones each netted 11 for the Braves.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

DAVIS 55, SYRACUSE 52

SYRACUSE – Syracuse led Davis 39-31 going into the fourth quarter, but the Darts outscored the Titans 24-13 in the final frame to claim the Region 1 road win.

Sydni Oviatt scored 14 points for Davis. Lindsey Reich netted 12 while Anna Nilson and Kami Ober each had 10 for the Darts.

Paityn Williams led all scorers with 22 for Syracuse. Rainee Schenck added 10.

FREMONT 59, NORTHRIDGE 52

PLAIN CITY – Fremont led 35-20 going into the halftime break and withstood a Northridge charge in the third quarter for the Region 1 win.

Emma Calvert with led all scorers with 17 points for Fremont. Abby Broadbent added 16 for the Silver Wolves.

Kendell Peterson led Northridge with 11 points and Jessica Peterson added nine.

LAYTON 52, WEBER 46

PLEASANT VIEW – Layton led 30-17 at the half, then held off a Weber fourth-quarter rally for a Region 1 road win.

Meg Edwards led Layton with 13 points and Brenda Gallegos scored 10. Kaitlyn Viator and Gracey Criswell each had eight points and four rebounds for the Lancers.

Megan Smoot scored 11 and pulled down five rebounds for Weber. Sarah Pollard added 10 points.

BONNEVILLE 54, OGDEN 28

OGDEN – Bonneville held Ogden scoreless in the first quarter and cruised to the Region 11 road win.

Talia Afuvai scored a game-high 16 points to lead Bonneville. Karly Conolly netted 13 and Mikaela Johnson added 12 points.

For Ogden, Brynn Soelberg scored 11 and Aleah Knowles had eight.

ROY 50, TAYLORSVILLE 20

ROY – Roy led Taylorsville 27-7 at the half on the way to the big win.

Josie Williams had 25 points to lead all scorers, adding 13 rebounds and four blocks. Makayla Jones added 11 for Roy.

TOOELE 43, BEN LOMOND 16

OGDEN – Tooele led Ben Lomond 25-6 at halftime and held the Scots scoreless in the third quarter for the Region 11 win.

Nicole Dominguez scored nine points to lead Ben Lomond.

BOX ELDER 56, MOUNTAIN CREST 47

HYRUM – Emily Isaacson scored 19 points and Andreanna McKee added 12 as Box Elder won at Mountain Crest.

DUCHESNE 40, ST. JOSEPH 17

DUCHESNE – Baskets were hard to come by for St. Joseph, as the Jayhawks were held to two points in each of the first and third quarters in their Region 16 loss at Duchesne.

Virginia Tomon had six points, seven rebounds and two assists for St. Joseph. Gracie Fergus contributed four points, six rebounds and three steals.
